Welcome To The Infant Jesus Shrine
|
Devotion to the Infant Jesus began in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Simple shepherds were with their flocks in the country side when an angel appeared to give them the good news of the birth. They hurried to see the wonderful things they had heard about, which the angel said, would bring great joy to all the people. Not long afterwards some wise men from the east were guided by a star which signified to them the fulfillment of a prophecy concerning the birth of the Saviour. The Shepherds and wise men were next to Mary and Joseph, the first person we know to have been drawn to the Infant Jesus.
Through the centuries millions of devotees around the world have followed their example. They come to pay their homage to the Infant Jesus, to ask His blessing and to live in His love. Great Saints may be numbered among them St. Anthony of Padua had such a great devotion to the Infant Jesus that he was favored with several visions of the Child and was given the privilege of holding the Infant Jesus in his arms. St. Teresa of the Child Jesus was another famous devotee. She is also known as the saint of the little way.
Jesus lived as a little child until he grew up to manhood. In this He was like any human being. But even as a child Jesus is God, and as a child he teaches us that the way to the Father is through a childlike trust in God and loving obedience to His will. |
